- Conny Loest se chovu bobtailů a bearded kolií věnuje už přes padesát let. Za tu dobu odchovala 185 šampionů bobtailů a 126 šampionů bearded kolií. V přednášce se podělí o pohled dlouholeté chovatelky na exteriér plemene — na co se zaměřuje při výběru štěněte, co považuje za zásadní vady, a kam se podle ní plemeno za poslední dekády posunulo. Jedinečná příležitost slyšet jednu z nejvlivnějších evropských chovatelek živě.

- Conny Loest has been breeding Bobtails and Bearded Collies for more than fifty years. During that time she has produced 185 Bobtail champions and 126 Bearded Collie champions. In her lecture she will share a long-time breeder’s perspective on breed conformation — what she focuses on when choosing a puppy, which faults she considers most serious, and where, in her view, the breed has moved over the past decades.

We return to the early 1970s, to post-war West Germany, where a young teenager carried dreams far greater than her age. While her peers were discovering new interests and enjoying a carefree school life, she was already working relentlessly. At just fifteen years old, she earned every single Deutsche Mark herself, determined to buy a Bobtail of her own. That dream took shape in the form of a bitch named Cora vom Glindenberg.
At only seventeen years of age, Conny bred her first litter with Cora in 1973 under the affix „aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal.“ That Cora can still be found behind many of today’s champions more than half a century later is no coincidence. It is the result of intuition, perseverance, and the remarkable inner strength with which Conny has navigated both deep valleys and high peaks over the past fifty years. Cora herself was not an outstanding top bitch, but Conny’s exceptional eye for quality made all the difference. By carefully selecting the right stud dogs, she built a successful line that would endure for generations.
Where others consistently chose the easy path, Conny always pursued the highest quality. Distance was never a limitation — whether that meant travelling by train to Hungary or boarding a plane to the United States. When it came to the right bloodlines, there were simply no boundaries.
In 1988, a new chapter began. Moving from Germany to the Netherlands — and later, in 1996, to Belgium — Conny opened her heart to a second man and with him to second breed: the Bearded Collie with affix „Firstprizebears,“ and what followed reads almost like a roll call of legends. She was fortunate to own the great Ch. Shilstone Choir Boy — affectionately known as „Bo“ — sire of more than sixty champion children and, in her own words, the very blueprint of the breed standard. Ch. Firstprizebears Vancouver became the first Bearded Collie bred overseas ever to earn an English title, taking the Reserve CC at Crufts in 2001. Ch. Firstprizebears Apache crowned the line with the Dog CC at Crufts in 2005. And Ch. Firstprizebears Helen Hunt was twice crowned World Champion, first at only eighteen months of age. Two breeds, one unmistakable signature.
And while breeders come and go — sometimes rising quickly, only to fade just as fast — Conny has managed to remain at the very top after more than fifty years of breeding. The world has changed. The dog world has changed. But at heart, Conny is still that fifteen-year-old girl: hardworking, curious, always searching, always striving to strengthen her line. Still standing at the top, with 185 home-bred champions to her name and 126 beardie champions.

Vracíme se na začátek 70. let do poválečného Západního Německa, kde mladá dívka v pubertálním věku nosila v srdci sny daleko větší, než odpovídalo jejím letům. Zatímco její vrstevníci objevovali nové zájmy a užívali si bezstarostný školní život, ona už neúnavně pracovala. Pouhých patnáct let jí bylo, když si každou jedinou Deutsche Mark vydělala sama — odhodlaná koupit si vlastního bobtaila. Ten sen dostal podobu feny jménem Cora vom Glindenberg.
Ve svých pouhých sedmnácti letech odchovala Conny v roce 1973 svůj první vrh s Corou pod chovatelskou stanicí „aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal“. Že se Cora i po více než půl století stále nachází v rodokmenech mnoha dnešních šampionů, není náhoda. Je to výsledek intuice, vytrvalosti a obdivuhodné vnitřní síly, s níž Conny prošla v uplynulých padesáti letech hlubokými údolími i vysokými vrcholy. Cora sama nebyla výjimečnou špičkovou fenou, ale Connyino mimořádné oko pro kvalitu udělalo všechno. Pečlivým výběrem správných krycích psů vybudovala úspěšnou linii, která přetrvá generace.
Zatímco jiní soustavně volili snadnější cestu, Conny vždy šla za nejvyšší kvalitou. Vzdálenost pro ni nikdy nebyla překážkou — ať už to znamenalo nastoupit do vlaku do Maďarska, nebo do letadla do Spojených států. Když šlo o správnou krevní linii, hranice prostě neexistovaly.
V roce 1988 začala nová kapitola. Po přestěhování z Německa do Nizozemí — a později, v roce 1996, do Belgie — otevřela Conny své srdce druhému muži a s ním i druhému plemeni: bearded kolii pod chovatelskou stanicí „Firstprizebears“. To, co následovalo, se čte téměř jako seznam legend. Měla štěstí, že mohla vlastnit slavného Ch. Shilstone Choir Boy — láskyplně zvaného „Bo“ — otce více než šedesáti šampionů a podle jejích vlastních slov samotnou předlohu plemenného standardu. Ch. Firstprizebears Vancouver se stal historicky první bearded kolií odchovanou v zahraničí, jež získala titul anglického šampiona — cestu odstartoval ziskem res. CC na Crufts v roce 2001. Ch. Firstprizebears Apache pak korunoval linii titulem CC ve psech na Crufts v roce 2005. A Ch. Firstprizebears Helen Hunt se dvakrát stala světovou vítězkou — poprvé již v pouhých osmnácti měsících. Dvě plemena, jeden nezaměnitelný rukopis.
A zatímco chovatelé přicházejí a odcházejí — někteří se rychle vyšvihnou nahoru, jen aby stejně rychle uvadli — Conny si dokázala udržet místo na úplném vrcholu i po více než padesáti letech chovu. Svět se změnil. Kynologický svět se změnil. Ale v hloubi srdce zůstává Conny stále tou patnáctiletou dívkou: pracovitou, zvídavou, neustále hledající, neustále usilující o posílení své linie. A stále stojí na vrcholu — se 185 vlastními odchovanými šampiony a 126 šampiony mezi bearded koliemi.
